Raise your hand if you’ve ever had a perfect date night ruined by over-indulgent/decadent foods + drinks! Date nights like this leave you feeling disappointed + bloated at best or sick + indisposed at worst, + it leaves your hopeful date feeling a lot less…hopeful (IYKYK). I’ve had my fair share of date nights like this, + I can promise you they never ended how I (or my husband) preferred them to.
Last week A + I had an impromptu date night that ended up being one of my favorites to date! We went to a couple different restaurants to take advantage of lower prices + smaller plates for happy hour. At first, I was worried I’d leave still hungry, but because we had to wait a bit at each place for our food to come out, it ended up giving us enough time in between to leave feeling perfectly satiated!
For appetizers we decided to hit up Stoic & Genuine for their Oyster Hour. We split oysters + each had a drink. A had the Dope Calypso granita cocktail, + I had the daily granita cocktail. If you’re not sure what granita is, it’s a drink made from crushed ice. My cocktail ended up being sweeter than I prefer, but A enjoyed his (+ ended up finishing mine!).
Our next stop was FOR[a]GED for nigiri, hand rolls (or sushi tacos as I like to call it!), yakatori, + ½ priced sushi rolls. We split 2 pieces nigiri, 2 suski tacos, 2 pieces yakatori, + 3 sushi rolls. This ended up being the perfect amount of food for us, + it didn’t leave us feeling miserably full like some of our date nights tend to do. I also chose FOR[a]GED for their smaller plates, + for their whiskey selections because A enjoys a good whiskey/whiskey cocktail. I had a glass of rosé + this drink was much more to my liking than the granita cocktail I had earlier!
The best part of our date night was that everything was entirely gluten free + dairy free! I’d be lying to you if I told you our impromptu date night was extremely cheap; however, to me it was a small price to pay in comparison to feeling ill from eating a heavy meal before bed or from experiencing the pains of getting gluten-ed or dairy-ed.
If you ever find yourself in the Denver area, I’d highly recommend you checking out both restaurants regardless of whether you have food allergies!
